How I Became Eloquent Speaker Admission Essay Several months ago I faced a problem. I had to make a presentation of my science project in front of a large audience of unknown people. First I felt quite enthusiastic about the experience, but soon I realized that the only thought made me feel panicky. I tried to write the text of my presentations and practice them at home imagining the audience. However, I felt it was not helpful at all. Finally, I came to the conclusion I had to take a short course in presentation skills. I searched the web, enrolled on a course and in two weeks came to listen to something that was advertized as a deep end technique. The lecturer, Professor Hemlick, turned out to be a wonderful presenter himself: he managed to break the ice quickly, talked about the way we all felt, gave some tips and soon we got so much involved in the discussion that had not even noticed that we were actually making presentations. First, we discussed the issue of successful planning, then he gave us several useful tips on how to make our presentation sound interesting. Finally, we practiced numerous psychological relaxation techniques and made short presentations to each other. And then it was time for our big test. Each of us received a very specific task and a small digital video camera. We had to go to different bars and cafes and make a presentation to the totally unknown people in there, recording our performance. Although I felt embarrassed first, I soon discovered that I could easily use all the techniques I had learned on the course. Moreover, instead of being panic-stricken, I was actually enjoying it. No need to say, the experience gave me great satisfaction and helped with my future presentations, which were now a piece of cake for me.

When we are first introduced to Macbeth in William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth he is illustrated as a loyal warrior hero to Scotland. Macbeth’s recognition on the battlefield helps gain him great honor from King Duncan who later announces him as Thane of Cawdor. However, throughout the play the audience is able to discover his human flaws. Ironically, his first characteristic of being a mighty powerful man actually changes to be a weak man who gets stepped all over on. The audience sees that Macbeth is a character in the play that is easily manipulated and vulnerable by his surroundings such as Lady Macbeth. Ironically, he is weak and he lacks strength – something he seemed to have when he was a war fighter. Lady Macbeth is a frightening female character in the play for Macbeth. As she is Macbeth’s wife, her role is significant in his rise and fall from royalty. During Shakespearean times, women were regarded as weak with a purpose to only be something like a housewife. They were not thought to be as intelligent, powerful or equal to men. In contrast however, Lady Macbeth is the biggest influence in Macbethâ €™s life. The moment she learns of the prophecies, she decides to stand behind Macbeth and watch him take throne. She uses her position to gain power controlling Macbeth. â€Å"Glamis thou art, and Cowador, and shalt be/ What thou art promised† (1.5.13-14). Wesley Smith Bradley Nowell Bradley James Nowell was a musician who served as lead singer and guitarist of the reggae/punk band Sublime. He died at the age of 28 from a heroin overdose. Raised in Long Beach, California, Nowell developed an interest in music at a young age. As a child, he enjoyed surfing and sailing and often participated in boat races. As Nowell grew, he became a difficult child and was often hyperactive and disruptive with his buddy Clayton Arbuckle. At the age of thirteen, he began playing guitar and started his first band Hogan’s Heroes with Eric Wilson, who would later become the bassist of Sublime. Nowell and Wilson met in sixth grade and lived across the street from each other; during this time, Nowell was described as a â€Å"gifted kid with many friends†. At first, Wilson did not share Nowell’s interest in reggae music. Nowell attended the University of California, Santa Cruz before transferring to Cal State Long Beach to study finance. However, he dropped out one semester shy of earning a degree, stating in 1995 â€Å"I have all the hard classes left†¦ I doubt I’ll ever go back†. According to â€Å"Westwood One Interview† on disc three of the Sublime box set, Nowell got together with bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Bud Gaugh, and began performing in small shows at house parties and barbecues in 1988. The band was often forced to leave the parties they performed at due to excessive noise, which would result in neighbors calling the police. Sublime gained a reputation for their rowdy behavior and eventually became one of the most popular bands in Southern California. Despite their success, music venues were skeptical of the band’s eclectic musical fusion and many refused to book the band. In response, Nowell and Wilson created their own music label, Skunk Records, and told venues that they were â€Å"Skunk Records recording artists†, which helped the band seem more accomplished and subsequently book more shows. The band produced and distributed Sublime’s early recordings on the label. The band’s demo tapes were later sold at shows and local record stores. While on tour in the mid-1990s, Nowell met Troy Dendekker, and they started dating. In September 1994, Troy became pregnant. In June 1995, Dendekker gave birth to a son, Jakob James Nowell. A week before Nowell died, the couple married in a Hawaiian-themed ceremony in Las Vegas. Seven days after Nowell’s marriage to Troy Dendekker on May 18, 1996 Sublime embarked on a five-day tour through Northern California, with a European and an East Coast tour to follow. On the morning of May 25, at the Ocean View Motel in San Francisco, drummer Bud Gaugh woke up to find Nowell lying half-way across a bed, with his knees and feet on the floor. At first, Gaugh assumed he had been too intoxicated to get into bed; however, further inspection allowed him to notice a green film around his mouth, and it became apparent that he had overdosed on heroin. Gaugh called for paramedics, but Nowell had died several hours earlier, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
